High School Football Team Helps Korean War Vet

Posted: Updated:

A high school football team in Texas helping a veteran in need.

83-year-old Dave Clark is a Korean War veteran who lives in Mart, Texas.

He earned five bronze stars, but nearly lost his life while stranded solo in the bitter cold.

Dave was rescued - but now his body is paying for that war time.

He and his wife Loretta wanted to repair their crumbling home with ramps and hardwood that would help Dave get around better.

What I really wanted was some wooden ramps, that whole room was bad, the roof was bad, the floor was bad," he said.

"He went through a lot. I've been married to him 61 years and he's a good man" Loretta said.

With no contractor willing to take the role the couple and their daughter went to the community for help, and the community was there with helping hands.

"To come and be a part of this project and helped someone who risked their life for our freedom, this is the least we could do," Mart High School Linebacker Collin Nail said.

The Mart Football Team was especially a big help, and with the strength in numbers, Dave finally has a perfect spot to call home.
