ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A man in Lehigh County could owe his life to a volunteer election worker who pulled him out from under a burning car.

This happened on Brookdale Street in Allentown, around 11:30 Tuesday morning.

21-year-old Milagros Cintron was passing out flyers with another volunteer when she saw flames shooting out of a garage.

Milagros says that she dropped her flyers and immediately pulled Stephen Plueler out and hosed him down.

She told her volunteer partner Eli Rodriguez to call for help. The pair then banged on the locked front door to get Plueler's wife out of the shower.

She says Plueler was on fire from the waist down.

"My instincts just kicked in. it was a sense I had to do something. I wasn't double thinking it. It was a life in danger and I had to help, Milagros said.

Diane Sanchez lives next door to the now-charred home.

"She was very courageous. If it was me, I would have been panicking. That was pretty cool," Sanchez said.

Firefighters say Plueler was changing the fuel tank in his station wagon when gas spilled, sparking the fire. Plueler is in the hospital recovering from second degree burns.

There is an incredible twist to this story, the unbelievable connection between the man's family and his rescuer.

"I found out his daughter was one of my elect sponsors in high school. She helped me. I am a young teen mom," Milagros said.

Milagros tells FOX 29 that while she saved their lives, she doesn't feel like a hero. She's just returning a favor.
