14-Year-Old Goes To College At UNLV

Posted: Updated:

Imagine entering college at an age when most kids are entering high school. Right now there's a freshman at the University of Nevada who isn't even old enough to drive, let alone smoke or drink.

Keandre Blackston Junior is just 14-years old and already an undergrad at university.

His mother home-schooled him for most of grade school because regular classes were too easy.

At age 12, he wanted to try public school again, so he took a placement test and landed in 11th grade.

Fast forward two years and he's a University of Nevada Rebel.

"They expect me to excel at every single thing I do. I think they forget, I'm normal and I might mess up," Blackston said.

"I want to be recognized as Ke'Andre Blackston. I want to be known for never letting my age get in the way of anything," he also told the Las Vegas Sun.

Blackston is a theater major, and he aspires to be in the entertainment industry one day. His mom, Ceavaya Robinson says that the odds were stacked against him. She never graduated from high school and his father had a difficult past.

However, she tells the Las Vegas Sun, Blackston showed his brilliance at a young age. He tied his shoes by age 2 and knew his multiplication tables by age 5.

Blackstone currently has a Millennium Scholarship to help pay for his college tuition.
