Middletown, NJ -

In honor of Veterans Day, a New Jersey church is doing something special to show its patriotism to our fallen soldiers.

In preparation for Veterans Day for the second year in a row, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Middletown, NJ is using old glory to honor the more than 6,700 fallen soldiers.

"The field of flags is a silent and poignant tribute to the sacrifice and service of our veterans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," Rev Joseph Hein said.

From folks coming to salute the flags, to popping their heads inside the church to say thank you, to one woman even lying inside the field of flags, reactions to the memorial have been widely received.

"I think it is important for the community to recognize all the men and women who have sacrificed for their country its part of the job we know what we are getting ourselves into." Sgt. Samuel Nasso said.

The stars and stripes represent more than the lives lost. They also honor the families of the fallen.

"It is a touching tribute to show them that your loved one sacrifice is honored and your sacrifice in giving of your family your flesh and your blood has given their life for this country and we honor that," James Pfleger, a U.S.MC Vet said.

"I am filled with hope when I look at the field of flags because I see a generation of idealistic young Americans and I see that they have gone to defend us ," Hein said

Service-members say the new wounded way display added this year is crucial for raising awareness for not just the physical wounds but the invisible wounds.

"I know a lot of service members are afraid to open up about PTSD for fear of judgment for things they have seen or may have done. And I know certain service members are their afraid to burden their loved ones," Pfleger said.

"We are part of this society we appreciate and love the ideals and institutions of America and we are letting our veterans know that by our tribute on the lawn. So I would encourage any church and every church to do so," Hein said.
