Cocktails and canvasses mix at Paint Nite in NYC

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Brushing and beer, creativity and cocktails. This is Paint Nite at the Essex on the Lower East Side. The challenge was to replicate a painting of a bridge in Central Park.

Paint Nite allows friends and strangers skip the studio and an instead meet at a bar to mix it up and mingle, and maybe make some art.

Paint Nite, the company, started a year ago and is already in 32 cities. On Tuesday night at the Essex, artist and illustrator Jeremiah Dube led the group. He insisted that he can teach anyone to paint -- even me.

Each student paid $65 for an art lesson. Plus whatever they spend on drinking. While they might not learn to paint like one of the greats in just one night, as long as they had fun and made new friends, it's the perfect picture, as far as Paint Nite's founders are concerned.
