Last Surviving Adult Cast Member Of 'I Love Lucy' Passes Away

She played Marion Strong, Lucy Ricardo's friend, and she was the last surviving adult cast member of the "I Love Lucy" cast. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Shirley Mitchell passed away on November 11th. She was 94.

She died of heart failure at her Westwood condominium in LA, according to her sister. Nancy Olson.

Mitchell joined the cast of Lucille Ball's I Love Lucy for the 1953-54 season and appeared in three episodes. She was widely remembered for her signature laugh.

Besides being in "I Love Lucy," Mitchell was also in a variety of other TV series and a few films. Some of her credits include: John Forsythe's secretary Kitty Deveraux on several episodes of Bachelor Father; neighbor Marge Thornton on Please Don't Eat the Daisies; Mae Belle Jennings, Kate Bradley's (Bea Benaderet) cousin, on Petticoat Junction; and Opal Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies. She also voiced Hanna-Barbera in "The Roman Holidays."

She is the widow of late composer Jay Livingston, who wrote award winning songs like "Mona Liza" and "Que Sera, Sera." Mitchell's sister, Nancy Olson, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sunset Boulevard. Mitchell is survived by her children, Scott and Brooke.
