Captured On Camera: Elk Vs Photographer

Posted: Updated:

A photographer gets a little too up close and personal with his subject.

The unnamed photographer, captured by follow photographer Vince Camiolo, was shooting an elk from a safe distance in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park when the elk approached him.

He decided to stay put, hoping the elk would lose interest and walk away. However, the elk soon got more physical, even head-butting the photographer and trying to gore him with his antler. All the photographer could do was to hope the elk would be done with the harassment and go away.

"'When he lowered his antlers to me, I wanted to keep my vitals protected and my head down. I felt that standing up would provoke him more and leave me more vulnerable to goring,'" the photographer told Camiolo.

This encounter went on for seven minutes, until the photographer finally got up.

"'I was concerned at first, but when he started rearing back and lunging at me later on, I got scared and pissed off,'" he continued.

Thank goodness the Park Rangers come in time, and they eventually scare the buck off. The buck almost runs off with the photographer's equipment though. The photographer was not hurt, and the elk was fine too. Watch the full video here.
