Officials Prepping For NJ Super Bowl, Testing Power

Posted: Updated:
MEADOWLANDS, N.J. -

We all remember the blackout that disrupted last year's Super Bowl, and officials want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Last year's NFL championship game in New Orleans was delayed for 34 minutes in the third quarter due to a power outage.

But officials believe MetLife Stadium has enough backups in place to ensure there are no blackouts in February.

They're going to run a third power line into the electrical substation at the Meadowlands sports complex. So, even if two other lines fail, the third would keep the game going.

Officials say MetLife Stadium is anticipating using 30 to 40 percent more energy during the big game than at an average Jets or Giants game.
