Some Wintry Precipitation Falling As Storm Moves Out

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Ultimate Doppler HD is showing our November storm system beginning to wrap up and wind down.

It looks like the worst is over, FOX 29 Meteorologist Justin Ryan says. The center of the low is just off the Delmarva Peninsula.

At 4 p.m., there was a break in the rain from Philadelphia back into South Jersey.

But on the western flank, we're seeing some snow showers breaking out as the cold air collapses on the back side of the storm.

We started this morning in the low- to mid-60s, and we're in the 30s by late afternoon.

It looks like the system will be racing out of town during the dinner hour. We'll be left with clouds for the rest of the evening.

It is gusty out there. We're seeing gusts up to nearly 30 mph in the Philadelphia area, and they could go up to 40 mph in some coastal areas.

With temperatures diving, there is a concern for some icing tonight.

The biggest mess this morning was clearly on the Schuylkill Expressway, where a deadly crash and flooding near Montgomery Drive had some motorists parked on the highway for several hours.

By 8 a.m., one lane was getting through in each direction, and things were improving westbound. Eastbound, however, things were still at a crawl late in the morning, probably due in part to people still heading to the airport.

You could have allotted two extra hours and still missed your flight today!

Problems at airports all along the eastern seaboard also took their toll at Philadelphia International Airport, too. By 7 a.m., arriving flights were delayed on average 1 hour and 55 minutes. Departure delays were creeping up, and there were even some cancelations on the flight boards.

CHECK: Latest Traffic Conditions

With these winds and heavy rains came reports of power outages throughout our area.

By mid-morning, PECO was reporting almost 3,000 customers without power, down from 4,400 earlier, most of them in Montgomery County.

Atlantic City Electric had about 1,000 outages throughout South Jersey, about half the number from earlier.

Delmarva was reporting scattered outages after having more than 900 customers without power earlier in Delaware.

PSE&G had slightly more customers, 2,000, in the dark by late morning than they did overnight.

REPORT, CHECK: Local Power Outages

We'll be continuing to track travel conditions tonight on the FOX 29 News at 5, 6 and 10!
