A man in Gloucester County is accused of stealing money meant for the needy.
Police say it was about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when they responded to a report of a suspicious man inside the Our Lady of Hope R.C. Church on Little Gloucester Road.
Police say the subject, identified as Kenneth Heil, was found inside of the chapel, counting money and placing it in his pants pocket.
Heil was detained when the officer observed a damaged donation box inside the chapel, police say. In addition, he had a flashlight and metal wires on him that were consistent with the scratched and damaged metal on the donation box, according to investigators.
Police found $29 in Heil's pocket at the time of arrest. He has been charged with theft and possession of burglary tools. His bail is set at $500.
