Florida Mother Meets Man Who Was Saved By Her Son

Posted: Updated:

It was an emotional meeting between two strangers. A Florida mother meets, for the first time, the man who received her son's organs.

16-year-old Brandon Bagnall celebrated his16th birthday with mom, three short months before he would save five lives. One of those lives is that of 65-year-old Bob Bougher.

It was an emotional encounter that most of us would pray to never experience. However, this moment for Bagnall was different.

"I feel more at ease....I feel like what Brandon has done is definitely...definitely worth every tear I've shed over the past year...it's hard...losing a child. It's really hard," she said.

Adding to the immense loss last Christmas was the surprise of it all.

The family had just returned home from picking up Brandon's older brother from the airport. He was home on leave from the Navy.

That very same night, a brain aneurysm ruptured in Brandon's head. He was brain dead by the next morning.

Brandon's mother and father decided to donate Brandon's organs. It resulted in six organs and five lives saved. Bob was one of them.

"I was going to the doctor's...getting all kinds of tests done," Bougher recalled.

Doctors said Bob was in the end stage of Pulmonary Fibrosis, likely caused by chemicals inhaled while serving in Vietnam. He needed a new lung, a smaller-sized lung, and Brandon's miraculously fit the bill.

"Since I got part of Brandon in me....I feel obligated to you now...because you remember...he's right here...," Bougher said.

Both Sue and Bob hope their story will inspire people to become organ donors.
