Bolingbrook family decks the halls for good cause

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It's hard to miss which house is the main attraction on one Bolingbrook street. You can see the glow from blocks away. The family who lives there has decorated the holiday light display for decades - this is the second year they've done it for a cause.

A small crowd of neighbors came to the Frohn family home the day after Thanksgiving to watch 60,000 lights brighten a Bolingbrook neighborhood. This year Larry Pope was honored at the Frohn family's annual Christmas light display.

"Grandpa had colon cancer and has come back and kind of went a little bit faster than we thought this time. We were very blessed that we were able to have him around. This is all very magical and special," said Dawn Pope.

"At this time of the year with difficult when you don't have your loved one with you," Janice Pope.

This is the 23rd year Jack and Laura Frohn decked the house by decorating their home with lights and scenes from the North Pole.

For years, the finished product has won awards and hearts.

Laura Frohn says it took a month to decorate the house.

"We do the roof in October and because for the last, both of us are retired this year but we work for the Postal Service for the last 70 years between us so we always had to take two weeks before Thanksgiving to do the lights because we couldn't take December off so that's why we always did it and that's why we designate the day after Thanksgiving to turn it on," said Laura Frohn.

The magnificent holiday display garners attention and donations - this year money raised will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

"Because we know people who have MS and we hope that one day there will be a cure," said Frohn.

It's a great cause but we're told at least one neighbor is not thrilled about all the traffic.

Santa Clause makes a pit stop here on Saturday, December 7 between 7-9 p.m.
