R-Rated Surprise During 'Frozen' Screening

Posted: Updated:

"Frozen" is supposed to be one of the biggest family-friendly hits of the season. However, a group of movie-goers at park place stadium 16 in Pinellas Park tell us that they recently got a not-so-friendly surprise and were frozen with shock.

"I was appalled. I'd hate to use that word, but I was," said Lynn Greene of Largo, Florida.

Lynn Greene was there with her grandchildren for a day-after-thanksgiving trip to the movies. She recalls that there were some technical problems delaying the start-time. The theater temporarily played another cartoon, she says.

"Then they put in the filler, it looked like Steamboat Willie, the old Mickey Mouse cartoon, and then all of a sudden it goes into this other scene," said Greene.

She says the other scene was sexually explicit and lasted several minutes.

"It seemed like forever when you're trying to, you know, cover a little guy's eyes and, like I said, I didn't have enough hands to cover his ears too and he got the sound down real good." Greene said.

Greene's grandson is six years old and she tells FOX that she's was forced to have a conversation with him that he didn't need to have for several more years.

A day later, everything's back to normal. Families heading to the movies couldn't believe this happened.

""It's pretty disturbing. If I had to explain that to my daughter, I don't know how I would address that," said another parent.

"I would get up and run out probably," said Janice Troch, another movie-goer

Greene says that Regal Cinemas gave all those in attendance free tickets as an apology, but Greene doesn't think that's enough.

She wants to be sure families seeing frozen or any other future children's film don't come for the surprise of a PG movie becoming an R-rated experience.

"They need to put something in place so something like this never happens again," said Greene.

A spokesperson for regal cinemas responded to the incident. He says that a wrong movie started by accident and less than two minutes was shown before it was stopped.

The company says the staff is taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
