Man Finds Own Obituary In Paper

Posted: Updated:

While newspapers report on a variety of deaths, a man in Alabama woke up to find something pretty unsettling in his local newspaper. He was shocked to see his own obituary.

"My wife, she called me. Said one of her clients that does business with 'em up there called and got on to her for not letting them know that I had passed," James Maze recalls. "She said, 'well if he has he's done it since I left home this morning."

James Maze says he couldn't believe what he saw when he picked up the paper Saturday morning. His picture was front and center on the obituary page when he was in fact alive and well!

Friends and family soon started making frantic phone calls to see if he was all right.

"And everybody went to saying, telling me how dead I was. That I was in the paper in the obituary column," he said.

In fact, another James Maze did pass away. The picture that the paper used was just incorrect.

Maze says he is not upset by the mistake.

"Well it feels good for God to resurrect you from the dead. I kind of know how Lazarus feels right now," Maze quips. "I'm James Maze and I'm very much alive."

The paper plans to run a retraction of the obituary tomorrow.
