Local College Students Targeted In Home Burglaries

Saint Joe's University students, who live off campus, say they've been targeted by thieves after several burglaries in the area.

Ben Weir showed us the back window thieves broke to get into the Wynnfield house he shares with his roommates. He says the bad guys got away with thousands of dollars' worth of electronics.

"They got stuff from every bedroom so about five televisions, five gaming systems, couple tablets," Weir said.

He and his roommates attend St. Joseph's University and were away during thanksgiving break when the burglaries happened. Police say two other houses on Woodcrest Ave and one on nearby Woodbine Ave were all hit.

Joe Convery says he also returned from the holiday weekend to find his TV gone from this table upstairs.

"You come back and it's unsettling to know there are people in your home, going through your stuff," Convey said. "It's hard not to be angry about it because I mean we're just like college kids here there's not really a lot that we have."

Police agree and think the crooks live in the neighborhood and that alarms other students who are keeping an extra eye on their belongings.

Meanwhile those who were robbed are re-thinking their overall security plan.

"Just makes you think and make you take precautions for next time hopefully so these things don't happen again.".

Police say they've dusted prints for a suspect but they do not have any IDs on suspects right now. A security advisory was sent out to all students. Police are instructing to students to take out AC units and lock all windows. If students have electronics, they should take pictures of the items with the serial numbers.
