The Boomerang Generation: More People In 20s Living At Home

Posted: Updated:

Forty percent of people between the ages of 20 and 29 are still living at home, a new study says. Many of them say they just can't afford to move out on their own.

This is earning the "millennials" a new nickname, "the boomerang generation."

Despite graduating from college, a lot of these young adults can't find work due to the dismal economy. Furthermore, many who are lucky enough to find work say that the cost of living is just too high.

"I graduated in May and I haven't found a job yet so I am just hanging out," said 23-year-old Laura Hebrick.

"I'm working full-time as machinist. It doesn't pay enough to move out; not nearly enough," 22-year-old J.C. Sawyer said.

This is a pretty stressful time for people in their 20s. A few days ago, a Gallup poll came out showing that most Americans believe that the best age for a woman to have a child is 25.

"Get a job, any job you can find; don't worry about the open one that's going to pay you what you think you are worth having just graduated college," advised financial analyst Steve Forbes.

Forbes says to focus on supporting yourself before thinking about supporting children.

And a lot of the people that the FOX station in New York interviewed agreed.

"You may have to live at home with the baby," remarked one.

"You can't really start a life unless you have enough financial stability to support your life and your child," said another.

  • Beautiful Easter Sunday

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
