Mentally Disabled Man Beaten In Unprovoked Attack

Posted: Updated:

Tenicia Williams says her 25-year-old son, Jermaine Findley, is mentally challenged, most of his issues stemming from a severe case of epilepsy, and that he wouldn't hurt a fly.

That's why her heart dropped when she learned he was a victim of a random beating at a gas station in Redford Township.

Recorded surveillance footage at the gas station on Telegraph Road shows Jermaine walk in and visit with the clerk who usually gives him a cigarette. Jermaine steps out of the way so the clerk can help the customer who pays for gas. You can see they never appear to speak.

The customer puts his money back in the wallet, takes one step toward the door, pivots and punches Jermaine who falls to the ground. Jermaine was kicked and stomped on while he was lying on the floor.

After watching the video, police agree Jermaine did nothing to provoke the attack.

"He stomped me, and he hit me in my head and my ear," Jermaine says, admitting he was scared.

The employee behind the counter, Mohammed Fakreddine, says he did not see any interaction between the two either.

Jermaine left and told his mom what happened. She immediately called police. Detectives hope the surveillance video will help identify the man who attacked Jermaine.

"I want him caught because he did the wrong thing," Jermaine says.

If you recognize the attacker in the video or photos, please call Redford Police: Phone: (313) 387-2500.
