Film Critic Picks Favorite Holiday Movies

Posted: Updated:

Tis the season for Christmas movies galore. Here to give his top picks is film critic, Kevin McCarthy.

Kevin's five favorite holiday movies are:

5. A CHRISTMAS STORY – Although initially not successful, this holiday classic now gets shown for 24 hours on Christmas. It's the timeless story of a boy who wants a BB gun for Christmas, and features classic scenes like a boy getting his tongue stuck on a pole and a father buying a leg lamp.

4. IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE – Initially a box office bomb, the movie even spent some time in the public domain. However, this holiday classic is often regarded as one of the best movies of all time and also has a sequel in the makes.

3. HOME ALONE – The movie that started a franchise. This first one, featuring dumb criminals and a smart boy outwitting them, laughs its way into holiday hearts.

2. DIE HARD – Another movie that started a franchise and Bruce Willis' most signature role. Kevin thinks this movie gets looked past because it's an action film. It does take place on Christmas, Kevin reminds Mike. Kevin said that Frank Sinatra was offered the role of Bruce Willis' character, but he turned it down because he was 74.

1. LOVE ACTUALLY – Ten great interwoven love stories for the romantics in all of us.
