Town Helps Special Needs Boy Catch The Bad Guy

Posted: Updated:
COVINGTON, GA -

A Christmas bandit is no match for Covington, Georgia's newest cop. The hero officer is five year-old Morgan Steward. He nabbed the Christmas bandit who was trying to steal toys and the town's Christmas cheer.

The dramatic arrest was captured inside the city's square right outside the old courthouse, with a big crowd of onlookers.

As police chased the Christmas bandit, Officer Steward stood in the way. "Catch the bad guy, Morgan," announced the PA. Officer Steward stood his ground, and the bad guy dropped his loot and surrendered.

Officer Steward suffers from spinal muscular atrophy. The condition keeps him confined to a wheelchair.

However, that did not keep him from reading the Miranda Rights to the thief. "You have the right to an attorney. If you can't afford one, we'll assign one to you," he said. "Do you understand your rights?"

Just weeks ago, he was made an honorary cop by the Covington Police Department, fulfilling one of his biggest dreams.

And with their help again, Steward was able to make another one of his dreams come true, arresting the bad guy. With the help of the whole town, Steward was able to spend the day with a smile on his face.
