Cruel Theft Leaves Plow Driver Sitting On Sidelines

Posted: Updated:
BRISTOL TWP., Pa. -

Sunday's snowy surprise was a financial boon to those folks who plow driveways and parking lots for a living.

But one bucks county man was shut out of the action, thanks to a thoughtless thief, FOX 29's Bruce Gordon reports.

All that white means plenty of green for snow plow operators – lots of landscapers earn their winter living plowing commercial lots.

Which is why this weekend's theft seems so cruel.

"This is the exact blade," said Scott Zeek. "It does have the snow deflector on it."

Zeek spent his Monday online, scanning the Meyer website, looking for a commercial-grade snow plow blade.

"I'm getting ready to buy a new one, unfortunately," he said.

That's because of what happened Sunday. As snow began to blanket the region, Zeek headed to his Langhorne landscaping office to attach his plow blade to his pickup truck and begin servicing his commercial clients.

The blade was gone, stolen from his side lot.

Zeek took a picture of the only evidence he could find, tire tracks leading out to Zimmerman Road.

"I was dumbfounded," he said. "I didn't know what to do. I was thinking, 'How could somebody do this?'"

How, indeed. The plow blade and assembly weighs nearly 900 pounds.

Zeek had bought it new back in 2006 for $4,500 and had spent another thousand bucks for repainting and repairs just last year.

"It's Christmas time," he said. "You know, we got four kids at home. Now I gotta buy a snow plow?"

Zeek's wife, Kristen, took to Facebook, writing an open letter to the "jerk" who stole the plow. Dozens of friends have offered their sympathies.

Zeek paid fellow plow operators to handle his clients Sunday, turning what would have been a profitable day, into a wash.

He'll buy and assemble a new blade in time for Tuesday's snow. It'll cost him $4,000. Insurance will cover just $2,500.

"What kind of Christmas are you looking at now?" Gordon asked.

"I'm hoping that the wife has all the shopping done, to be honest with you!" Zeek said, laughing.

He says his stolen plow has a black deflector band along the top with the word "Meyer" on it. And the plow blade is newly painted in what he calls "safety vest yellow," brighter than the usual Meyer blade.

If you see it, call Bristol Township police.
