Santa Visits Preemie Babies In Hospital

Posted: Updated:

Santa paid an early Christmas visit to a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit in San Diego, California.

2 and a half-week-old twins, Tanner and Katelyn, came into the world early, so of course they expected an early visit from Santa at UCSD`s pre-natal unit.

2 pounder Helen and 3 pounder Augustine took their first pictures with Santa.

For Kim and Brian Itschner of Temecula, Santa's visit makes spending the holidays at the hospital a little easier.

'It's nice to have the holiday atmosphere. I hope those are happy tears. Yes they are," Itschner said.

The visit is a tradition here at the preemie unit. Bringing joy to families over the year; helping mark the progress made in helping these really little ones, make it home.

'I think back to when I started doing this kind of nursing, half of 3 pound babies die and now we send home babies that are less than a pound,' NICU Nurse Manager Jan Hebert said.
