Santa Visits Preemie Babies

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

Two and a half-week-old twins, Tanner and Katelynn, came into the world early, so of course they expected an early visit from Santa at UCSD's  pre-natal unit.

Nat: 'What do you want for Christmas."'

Two pounder Helen and three pounder Augustine took their first pictures with Santa.

Hebert say: "The parents have always appreciated the opportunity to have something going on throughout the holiday."

 Nat: "you sleeping?"

For Kim and Brian Itschner of Temecula, Santa's visit makes spending the holidays at the hospital - - a little easier.

Itschner says: "It's nice to have the holiday atmosphere. I hope those are happy tears. Yes they are."

The visit is a tradition here at the preemie unit.

Santa says: 'This is my eighteenth year. "

Reporter says: "You`re getting old Santa."

Bringing joy to families over the year; helping mark the progress made in helping these really little ones, make it home.

Hebert says: "I think back to when I started doing this kind of nursing, half of 3 pound babies die and now we send home babies that are less than a pound."

Itschner says: "They were both born November 22."

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
