George Washington Bridge lane closures

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Motorists looking to cross the busiest vehicular bridge in the world this weekend may want to find another route -- or be prepared to sit in traffic and be patient.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will close three of the four eastbound upper-level lanes of the George Washington Bridge from Friday, Dec. 20, at 9 p.m. until Saturday, Dec. 21, at 5 a.m.

Then three of the four upper-level lanes in both directions will be closed from Saturday at 10 p.m., through Sunday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m.

Finally, three of four westbound upper-level lanes will be closed from Sunday at 9 p.m. to Monday, Dec. 23, at 5 a.m.

Contractors will be working replace steel panels on the deck.

The Port Authority is urging motorists to take alternate routes, such as the Lincoln Tunnel or Holland Tunnel or Tappan Zee Bridge, or head for the bridge's lower level, which will likely be very slow-going.
