Christmas Gifts Stolen From Family

Posted: Updated:

"That was the Christmas money for Christmas gifts that I saved," says Elsa Santiago, who had her home burglarized Friday.

Behind tears Elsa Santiago says she saved up money to buy Christmas gifts that were swiped from right under the tree by burglars.

"They took my grandson's gift. My granddaughter gift.  Everybody's gift.  And it's not fair that you work so hard," said Santiago.

Police say it happened after 1 this afternoon.  The Santiago family says the thugs kicked in a second floor air conditioner to get in and used forks and knives to pry open doors that were locked.  They say the burglars rummaged through three bedrooms - snagging more than a thousand in cash, jewelry, a passport and other valuables before heading downstairs and stealing the goodies that were wrapped and under the tree.

She also says a Barbie doll house was among the gifts stolen and says the thieves are heartless.

"It's just not fair around this time.  My sister is in college and they took her computer."
