Glasses Save Sleeping Girl From Bullet

Posted: Updated:

A 16-year-old Seattle, Wash., girl says she is alive today thanks to her glasses.

Alonza Bryant just so happened to fall asleep with her glasses on Saturday night.

She was sleeping on her couch when a drive-by shooting sent bullets flying through the windows of her family home.

One bullet hit the bridge of Alonza's glasses and deflected the bullet heading straight for her head. Her glasses broke, but she only suffered minor injuries.

The teen is now crediting her bad eyesight with saving her life.

"If I didn't have my glasses on, I wouldn't be here," Alonza Bryant said.

"I fell asleep with my glasses on, and the glasses saved where the bullet was," she said. "And I told my mom that I have a bullet in my, in between my nose. She was crying, and she called the cops."

The bullet traveled through the windows, through the wall, hit the TV, hit the couch, and hit the glasses.

Alonza later added, "I could have been dead. And I'm glad that the glasses saved me. And I just wish that this never happened."

Bullets from the drive-by shooting also missed three other children and three adults inside the home. The family says they are so traumatized they have moved out and are looking for another place to live.

Police say the shooting is under investigation and believe it to be gang related.
