(WJBK) -

A man is holding a shoe repair and clothing drive for the homeless at Eastern Market until 7 a.m. Christmas morning.

Moe Draper knows how to take a pair of beat up shoes and make them look and feel like new. People from all walks of life turn to Moe, even those who can't afford his services but need them the most.

"They just tell me about what's going on in their life. A lot of them tell me they appreciate what I'm doing for their shoes. A lot of them will barter their services, keep the place clean or look out and make sure no one breaks in or anything like that," he says.

He knows what it's like to be homeless. In 2010 he was living on the streets. And this Christmas Moe decided to do something special for his homeless customers.

"The game plan was to have shoes dropped off that people didn't want anymore, fix them and to give them to the homeless as they walk by throughout the market every day," he explains.

The community came through, delivering shoes and plenty more. Moe says he never expected the amount of donations that he received.

Moe says he'll take the clothes and toys and hold an event in January when homeless families can shop through the donations. Meanwhile, Moe and his team will be at his shed in Eastern Market accepting donations and giving out shoes until 7 a.m. Christmas morning.
