New Changes In The Philadelphia Area For 2014

PHILADELPHIA -

If you signed up for Obamacare, your health coverage starts when the clock strikes midnight. The highly talked about and controversial Affordable Care Act takes effect in the New Year.

Who turned out the lights?? 40 and 60 watt incandescent bulbs are out in 2014, while compact fluorescents and other energy efficient bulbs are in.

By January 5th, expect to pay more on the PA turnpike. If you're paying with green you'll see a 12% hike. EZ pass users will pay two percent more in 2014.

And across the bridge in New Jersey, the minimum wage is going up a dollar to $8.25 an hour at midnight.

A new year and a new outlook will be in place for the Boy Scouts of America. It will no longer deny openly gay children from joining their organization.

And one more noteworthy change in 2014 at Philadelphia's Jim Steaks.

For the first time in 38 years, they'll be making Philly favorites without Maxine Harley. Today is the manager's last day on the job.

"What are you going to do in retirement?" asked FOX 29's Jenni Joyce.

"Sleep," she replied as she laughed.

At the age of 71, this hardworking woman is wiping her hands clean of these steamy steaks and cozying up to retirement.

"I wish everybody could learn that kind of dedication..." remarked Elie Rosenblatt, the General Manager.

"I'm proud of her -- happy she's such an example," said Rosalind Harley, her daughter.

Celebrating with her family by her side, Harley says the decision to leave her work was family

"Working with her she's like my second wife..." Rosenblatt said.

And her customers from all over the world are bittersweet.

"I know a guy from Key West Florida -- he called on Xmas and I told him I was retiring..." Harley said. "It's time, but it's tough..."

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
