Crime Numbers Are Down, But Is Philly Safer?

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Crime is going down in parts of Philadelphia, but not everywhere.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says murders are down more than 35 percent from 2007 to 2013.

Assault and car thefts are down as well.

Ramsey believes flooding high-crime communities with officers and $5 million in overtime for weekend patrolling is helping.

Residents say more can be done.

Although the decreasing numbers are a good sign, the police department's East Division in North Philadelphia and Kensington report murders have not fallen.

FOX 29's Jeff Cole has more from Ramsey and residents in this video report.
