A woman believed to be a serial purse snatcher is now in police custody.
Police say good samaritans helped bring down 37-year old Amanda Downing. Authorities say she was caught trying to snatch an elderly woman's purse from a Burlington, Vermont super market.
The victim reportedly yelled "stop thief" and people moved in to help her. A pharmacist actually followed Downing to the parking lot and was able to get all the key information to help authorities nab her.
"We don't typically recommend that people physically engage these types of suspects. Typically they're desperate as in this case. It was motivated by drugs," Burlington Police Department Corporal Tom Chenette said.
Several police agencies were looking for Downing who was wanted for thefts at other supermarkets.
