Delaware County Family Reunites With Missing Dog

GLENOLDEN, Pa. -

A remarkable sense of direction helps reunite a family with their dog who went missing in Delaware County. FOX 29's Drew Dickman has the incredible story.

Jackie & Jason Fitzpatrick never thought they'd see her again. Their 2-year-old German Shepherd Bianca got loose Friday morning while she was out in the snow.

"When I was bringing her back into the house, she pulled and I slipped, and literally went straight out," Jason said.

Bianca bolted off, and by the time Jason got up, she was barely in sight.

He started driving around the neighborhood asking for leads.

"After about the two hour and 15 minutes mark, I just got to the point where they just stopped seeing her," Jason said.

The Fitzpatricks consider Bianca such a big part of their family that they even have a Christmas stocking for her. So when she went missing the other day, it was all hands on deck.

"I called. She got hysterical. She called all of her sisters and relatives who were off work that day because of the weather. We got a little search party going in the area," Jason said.

While they were out looking that afternoon, the Fitzpatricks finally got the call they'd been waiting for.

"I find it pretty crazy. It's a long walk from where she was," Barker Lounge employee Kevin Sensenig said.

Sensenig first noticed the dog trying to scale a fence in the back of the Barker Lounge.

It turns out, Bianca had walked 2 and a half miles to her doggie day care.

Mary Steveline cares for the pooch twice a week and immediately recognized her.

"She sounded like her, her barking, her crying and she was jumping in the fence just like she does to get in here," she said.

Days later, the Fitzpatricks are still thanking their lucky stars.

"I just can't stop staring at her. I took her there the other day and I'm tearing up. I cannot believe you made it all the way here in one piece," Jackie said.
