Pregnant Woman On Life Support Stirs Up Debate

Posted: Updated:

FORT WORTH, TX - A pregnant woman, on life support in Fort Worth since November, was the focus of demonstrators on Sunday. The case of Marlise Munoz has sparked a lot of debate because she is being kept alive for her unborn child.

Just a handful of people on both sides of the issue showed up to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth to express their opinions about Munoz being kept alive.

Munoz collapsed in November, likely because of a blood clot in her lung.

But her husband and parents want Munoz taken off life support. They say it's a violation of her human rights. In a recent interview with Fox, her mother says that Marlise would not have wanted to be kept alive and told her parents that several times.

However, Texas law will not allow life sustaining treatment to be taken away from a pregnant woman. Marlise is about five months pregnant and the baby's heart is beating.

The protestors that are in support of removing the life support didn't include any family members, they call themselves concerned citizens.

Those in favor of keeping Munoz on life support are from Fair Park Bible Fellowship in Dallas. The say the baby could live to full term and should be allowed to do so.
