Streets Department: Potholes Appearing Earlier This Year

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

These constant swings in temperatures have caused major problems on our roads. Drivers are dealing with potholes all over the place!

Unsuspecting Drivers like Jonelle Williams say potholes like the one on City Line Ave near Cardinal are wreaking havoc on their cars and wallets.

"It costs a lot of money to repair a tire," Jonelle said.

Alex Navarro of Millennium Tire and Auto Repair says not only can your tire get damaged but your rim can too. And if it can't be repaired a new rim like could cost more than a new tire at 3 to 4 hundred dollars each. He says all of his customers as of late need repairs or replacements after hitting potholes.

"An aluminum rim when it hits a pothole at a certain speed it cracks and it bends," Navarro said. "Give it a couple of hammers down and try to put it back to its form. But aluminum rims have to be sealed with heat. It's a whole process."

Philadelphia Streets Department says they are working to keep up with the number of potholes reported daily.

"The potholes are appearing earlier this year than last year," Lorenz said.

Lorenz also says as of right now there's a backlog of 150 with 20-75 being repaired daily

"I think they could do a better job at fixing roads because the motorists don't want their cars damaged," Williams said.
