Police Seek Trio In Theft Of Wallet From Purse At Restaurant

Posted: Updated:

Police say they're looking for three suspects after the theft of a wallet from a purse inside a Washington Square restaurant was caught on surveillance video.

This happened Friday at 8:45 p.m. inside the Rice & Mix Restaurant, located at 1207 Walnut Street.

According to Central Detectives, one suspect entered and approached the victim while the other two went to distract the clerk.

Police said the suspect then sat down directly behind the 32-year-old female while she was eating, then placed his jacket over her purse, which was hanging on her chair back, and removed her wallet.

The suspect then got up, walked over to the other suspects, talked briefly and left the restaurant.

All three suspects were described by police as black and about 40 years of age. The two men were between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall. One had a full beard, a blue Jeff hat, a blue quilted-pattern jacket, a dark-blue argyle-print sweater, blue jeans and white sneakers. The other had a stocky build and wore a dark-colored baseball cap, a dark-colored North Face jacket and blue jeans.

Police said the female suspect was 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build, wearing glasses, a dark-colored baseball cap, a dark-colored North Face jacket, blue jeans and carrying a tan pocket book.

If you see these suspects, police say don't approach them; call 9-1-1 immediately. To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477), text to PPD TIP (773847), or click here.
