Homeowner Discovers Peeping Tom In Surveillance Video

Posted: Updated:
MIAMI, FL -

A Florida homeowner's surveillance video records a frightening scene a Peeping Tom peering through her bedroom window when she was home alone. Now she hopes the video can help catch him.

FOX's Nicole Linsalata has that story.

Homeowners in one South Florida neighborhood are complaining of a privacy problem, and they are sharing their surveillance video to prove it.

The homeowner who did not want to be indemnified said she was home alone Monday night when she noticed someone had jumped her fence. "My dog started barking in the living room, wanted to go outside to the backyard, and I just saw someone jump over the fence," she said.

The woman checked her backyard surveillance camera video and was shocked. "At 12:41 someone entered the property and went straight to my bedroom window and watched me for 35 minutes," she said.

Her surveillance video captured a man, wearing a red shirt, lurking around her backyard. The man is seen sometimes on his hands and knees and behind patio furniture.

The homeowner called her neighbor and immediately called police. "The officer was standing next to us and saw the whole video," she said. "He just said, 'It's probably just a neighbor who wanted to see you naked.'"

"We usually hear about pretty good police response in the neighborhood, so I was surprised," said neighbor Micha, "but she was shocked about the police reaction."

The homeowner hopes someone will recognize the man and turn him into police. "My husband is disgusted, obviously, as I am," said the homeowner.

In terms of the police response, Miami Police said, that if the victim had a problem with how the call happened, she should contact the department directly.
