PHILADELPHIA -

Police say they're rerouting pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the Rittenhouse Square area after PECO work triggered popping from underground transformers.

Pedestrians and motorists were being warned to stay out of the area around noon as fire and PECO crews investigate at the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

"ATTENTION: 17th-19th Spruce to Walnut in both directions is closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. PECO Activity. Avoid the area," Philadelphia police tweeted at 12:18 p.m.
