Security Breach At Target May Have Affected Other Retailers

Posted: Updated:

The security breach that hit Target during the holidays appears to be part of a broader scam that affected several retailers.

Lauren Simonetti with FOX Business has this and more in the "Midday Market Report."

The government has distributed a confidential report to retailers that goes into detail about the malicious hack attack at Target late last year.

The report says the code was written in Russian, called KAPTOXA or "potato."

It also says the hacking took place in two stages: first, it targeted the devices where payment cards were swiped, making copies of the personal data on the magnetic strips.

And second, the hackers broke into target's network.

The government hopes this information will help other merchants beef up their security to prevent further data breaches.
