DeKalb County jail doing away with face-to-face visitation

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, Ga. -

The DeKalb County jail is getting rid of face-to-face visitations. The jail is now using a new video visitation system.

Visitors can talk to inmates free of charge. The system can also be used remotely from anywhere in the world for a fee. DeKalb officials say it's more efficient and safer.

DeKalb Sheriff Thomas Brown said, "We've had issues in the past with contraband getting into the jail. We've had physical altercations. That will no longer take place anymore."

The new video visitation system also allows the staff to better manage the inmates and the additions were made without any additional cost to DeKalb taxpayers.
