Gradual Warm Up, Then More Snow?

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

While you were sleeping, snow snuck in overnight, blanketing our area in white.

As a result, we've got a few dozen school closings and delayed openings reported, mostly in Delaware and New Jersey.

Some counties are delaying office openings and canceling non-essential services, too.

CHECK: Reported School Closings, Delayed Openings

It looks like this winter storm is moving out of Philadelphia. But it's still snowing in parts of Delaware and New Jersey, and the dangerously cold temperatures remain.

FOX 29 Meteorologist Caitlin Roth is in with your forecast, and Kacie McDonnell will tell us what this means for your morning commute.

WATCH LIVE: "Good Day Philadelphia," 4:25 a.m.-10 a.m.

So far, the highest snow accumulation totals have come from the southern portions of our viewing area, as expected. Harrington, Del., leads the way with 5.2 inches.

We've gotten about an inch in Philadelphia.

A Winter Storm Warning has been extended until 8 a.m. Wednesday for Sussex County in Delaware and Cape May County in New Jersey. Preliminary snowfall amounts say that Kent and Sussex counties have each gotten about 3-5" of snow.

Winter Weather Advisories will also last until 8 a.m. for Atlantic, Burlington, Cumberland and Ocean counties in New Jersey, where lighter snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible.

CHECK: Latest Weather Warnings, Watches, Advisories

FOX 29's Steve Keeley is in Atlantic City, NJ where the snow is still falling. However much snow falls, you can still see the neon lights from the casinos.

FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney was driving around New Castle County at around 7:00 a.m. People's cars are covered, and they'll be digging out. It's mainly the sidewalks and side-roads that will give people problems as plows haven't treated them yet.

We're not the only ones dealing with this messy winter weather. Down South, some children in the Atlanta area were forced to sleep at school because the roads were just too dangerous!

Drivers in Alabama are struggling to get around, too, after several inches of snow fell throughout the state. The governor there declared a state of emergency and asked people to stay off the roads.

Frigid temperatures are expected to stay in the South until at least Thursday, and ice is definitely a concern down there.
