Montco Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student

Posted: Updated:
LOWER MORELAND, Pa. -

A Montgomery County teacher is facing charges for allegedly sending a student photos and videos of a sexual nature and having intercourse with him once, prosecutors say.

Erica Ann Ginnetti, 33, worked as a math teacher at Lower Moreland High School. Authorities say she's also a married mother of three children.

Prosecutors said in a news release that investigation revealed the relationship began in May 2013 when Ginnetti allegedly approached the student at the school's senior prom and asked him if he would work out at her gym. He then emailed her to ask for her phone number, and she gave him her cell number.

That's when they began to communicate on a daily basis, authorities say.

"Over the next several months, Ginnetti sent the victim a series of text messages that were sexual in nature," a press release states. "The texts included videos of Ginnetti undressing and performing sexual acts on herself, and several sexually suggestive photographs of her in her underwear and a bikini."

Investigators also said Ginnetti and the victim agreed to meet at a coffee shop in Northeast Philadelphia in July, and they then drove to a nearby industrial park, where they allegedly had sex.

Prosecutors say she then drove him back to the coffee shop and asked him not to tell anyone about the incident.

Ginnetti faces charges of institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors and disseminating obscene materials to a minor.

At an arraignment her bail was set at $50,000 unsecured, and she was ordered to turn in her passport, have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with minors except her children, and she will be monitored via GPS.

According to a statement from Lower Moreland School District Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley, "As soon as the District became aware of the allegation, the teacher was placed on administrative leave. We are now moving swiftly to terminate her employment and will take all steps necessary to ensure the teacher does not teach again."

Feeley went on to say that the proper authorities are handling the situation, the district is cooperating fully, and "The safety and well-being of our students remains our top concern at all times."
