State Rep. Miranda, Sister Released, Face Hearing Next Week

PHILADELPHIA -

Pennsylvania state Rep. Jose P. Miranda and his sister have been released from custody and face a court hearing next week.

Miranda and his sister, Michelle Wilson, were arraigned a day after surrendering to authorities and released on their own recognizance, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.

The D.A. says it was a report by FOX 29's Jeff Cole that led to a grand jury investigation into Miranda allegedly hiring a "ghost employee" to circumvent the law and hire his sister.

Prosecutors say that employee, hired as a legislative aide, then secretly funneled money to her.

Miranda and Wilson are charged with conflict of interest, perjury and criminal conspiracy charges. They next face a preliminary hearing on Feb. 4.
