CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Five separate crashes—involving at least nine vehicles—on a stretch of I-55 closed northbound lanes for about two hours during the morning rush Monday near southwest suburban Channahon.

Traffic was diverted from northbound lanes of I-55 between Bluff Road and U.S. 6 about 8:15 a.m. while police worked to clear five separate crashes involving at least nine vehicles, four of which were semi trucks, according to Illinois State Police.

At least two people were taken by ambulance to hospitals and a third was airlifted to a hospital, police said. No fatalities were reported.

The left lane of the expressway was reopened about 10:15 a.m., and all lanes were by open by 2 p.m., ISP said.
