Recovering User Explains Bad Heroin Batch In Delaware Valley

It's real and it's right in our back yard. This bad batch of heroin is on the streets of the Delaware Valley and one recovering user tells us it's more than he bargained for.

33-year-old Justin knows a thing or two about Fentanyl-laced heroin, a tainted version linked to more than 100 deaths across the country…including Pennsylvania.

"It's cheaper for drug dealers to cut it with Fentanyl. The withdrawal comes on quicker. Your body becomes addicted to it quicker. Therefore, you need it more," Justin said.

Justin requested we hide his identity…but wants his story told in recovery for a month after a recent relapse, he says he's done this form of heroin…and is thankful he's alive to talk about it.

"Sure it scares me, thinking that I dodged a bullet more or less. That would have been me at any given time," Justin said.

The Feds say 22 PA residents have died in recent weeks from this batch and Justin says the Fentanyl form is very easy to get.

"The good stuff on the street is Fentanyl-laced. People go down to Kensington and other…inner cities looking for the best stuff," Justin said.

It's currently branded with names like "bud ice" and "income tax" often carrying stamps similar to these.

But now federal lawmakers like U.S. Sen. Bob Casey are worried about re-branding…and want Washington to crack down.

Justin says he knows first-hand how painful it is losing friends to this drug.

"I've lived with guys here personally that have left the house and died within a couple days. It's a sad situation. These are people that I care about." Justin said.

Just days ago one man was arrested and charged with intent to sell $2,000 bags of heroin some believed to be related to the overdose deaths, but the idea tells me they continue to actively investigate the source of this batch. They're working with local and state law enforcement groups in the process.

    Cooler and drier air moves in today but the heat and humidity return for the second half of the holiday weekend.

    A cold front came through last night meaning cooler, less humid air is moving in for Thursday.  Mostly sunny skies and winds gusting to 25mph are also expected today.  Friday starts off very cool and also features a pleasant afternoon.

     The holiday weekend is looking warmer and unsettled. Shower and thunderstorm chances increaselate Sunday and Labor Day.
