Financial Tips To Avoid Money Misunderstandings With Spouse

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Save yourself the headache and avoid those money mistakes before you start dating or get married.

Here's FOX Consumer Reporter Steve Noviello's three step plan to follow when starting to date.

1- LET YOUR DATING LIFE REFLECT YOUR REAL LIFE

"Stay true to you financially the entire time," Noviello said. You don't want to spend a lot of money to show off and give unrealistic expectations of what marriage will be like. "Be consistent, so that there are no surprises."

2- TALK OPENLY ABOUT MONEY BEFORE YOU MARRY

Remember to talk about financial goals.

"Do not assume that your partner is on the same page as you financially," advised Noviello. "It's best to find out ahead of time if your partner does not share the same idea as you are."

3- FOLLOW, FOLLOW, FOLLOW

Make sure to follow up with your significant other often about finances. Make it a calendar item. Sit down and chat about the conversation.

"The more you have it, the less icky it becomes, and the more you can decide on things that financially fit both of you," Noviello advised.
