Million dollar luxury watch theft bust

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - High-end jewelry and watch stores were the target of a four-man crime spree that authorities say hit luxury stores in New York, New Jersey and Virginia for more than a million dollars of watches.

Allens Williams, 35; Roberto Grant, 33; Terrell Ratliff, 22; and Tyrone DeHoyos, 35, have been charged with robbery conspiracy and one or more robberies in connection with the case.

The FBI and New York City Police built a case against four men who are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in federal court in Manhattan. The case was unveiled Wednesday but the men were arrested previously.

Authorities say they terrorized customers and employees by smashing display cases with hammers and stealing high-end timepieces.

Police Commissioner William Bratton says two men were arrested shortly after walking into the Manhattan Cartier store and stealing $700,000 of watches. If convicted, the men can face up to 20 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, the six month long spree included a series of violent robberies of high-end jewelry and watch stores while customers and employees were in the stores.

The robberies followed a simple but brazen pattern, according to the Feds.

On each occasion, three to five members of the group allegedly entered a  store, began smashing glass display cases with hammers, grabbed luxury watches, and then took off in waiting getaway cars.

The robbers used violence as necessary, according to prosecutors. For example, during one robbery in August 2013 in Richmond, Va., the robbers used a handheld stungun to subdue a female store employee while stealing  more than $100,000 in watches.

Among the stores robbed are Cartier in Manhattan, the Borgata  in Atlantic City, Schwarzschild’s Jewelers in Richmond, and Martin Jewelers in Cranford, N.J.
