SEPTA Detouring Some Routes, At Nearly Double Winter Budget

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

SEPTA is reporting about 25 weather-related detours across the area early Tuesday morning. No cancellations yet.

But spokeswoman Heather Redfern said that, for the most part, trains are running on or close to schedule, and buses are getting out and they are OK.

Given the timing of this storm coming for the morning rush hour, SEPTA is advising passengers to he take their time getting on and off trains and walking on the platforms, especially with snow still coming down in some places. They try to pre-treat and get out there as soon as possible, but they urge caution while you're moving around.

Redfern also says the transit agency has nearly doubled its snow-clearing budget of between $4 million and $5 million during this winter with 13 snow events already.

Officials hope ridership continues to pick up as it has over the last few years and more people ride.

"It couldn't hit at a worse time, you know, morning rush hour," Redfern said. "If people can delay their starts this morning – I know people had off Thursday, Friday and maybe yesterday, so it's going to be hard and everybody's itching to get their kids back to school, and they have to get back to work – but if you can delay a bit. that might help out, too."

However, Redfern emphasized that the conditions on SEPTA are best they can be despite the storm.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
