Video: Bus Carrying Passengers Crashes Through Two Parking Lots

Posted: Updated:

Valley Regional Transport in Boise recently released dash cam video showing a bus that went crashing into two parking garages last month.

It was early in the morning on January 6 when the bus transporting nine people crashed through two parking lots before plowing through the Idaho Power Building on Idaho and 13th street.

Police charged the driver Frank Moala with negligence. They say he appeared to be driving drowsy.

According to police, the video showed his eyes were closed shortly before driving off the road.

Moala pleaded not guilty to the charge instead he told police the brakes failed on the bus, but Valley Ride says that's not the case and the bus was up to date on its maintenance.

"There's a very rigid schedule and it's a very aggressive schedule in terms of making sure air brakes are working, all the systems are working, all the emergency systems are working," Mark Carnopis of Valley Regional Transport said.

Valley Ride does not employ the drivers instead they work for an outside company.

Company leaders won't say if Moala is still employed there, but they did confirm the morning shift was his normal shift and Moala was not working extended hours that day.

"There are limitations in terms of hours and when you can drive and everything else. They've been following those procedures to a Tee," Carnopis said.
