According to a new study, our consumption of butter in this country is at a 40 year high and doctors say Americans are due for an oil change!
Doctor Janet Brill talked to Good Day to give viewers some advice for Heart Health Month.
Dr. Brill thinks that butter consumption is on the rise because of the scare with margarine after studies showed that margarine was not good for the health either. People are turning back to butter because it's natural. However, natural does not mean healthy!
Dr. Brill recommended we stick with plant based oils. Olive oil is the best, and canola oil is good if one wants oil that does not have a flavor.
"We want liquid, poly-unsaturated fat," Dr. Brill recommended.
Also, use avocado and hummus as substitutes. They are nutritious, and give an interesting taste and texture. Dr. Brill does not recommend the traditional butter substitutes.
