Florida Zoo Has A Precious New Resident

Posted: Updated:

A 1 week old panther was rescued last month in Tampa Florida by biologist from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. They discovered the baby partner as they were conducting field search. The 1-pound male had a dangerously low body temperature and was non-responsive.

He was taken to the Animal Specialty Hospital of Florida in Naples, then later to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo.

The zoo officials say the month old kitten is healthy and active. The panther has an excellent appetite and the staff will begin to wean him into a meat-based diet.

The baby panther cannot be released into the wild because he was not able to learn survival skills from his mother.

The kitten will most likely stay at Wildlife State Park.
