PHILADELPHIA -

Shelton Thomas, 47, has been accused of stealing more than $95,000 from a WWII veteran by posing as District Attorney Seth Williams.

According to the District Attorney's office (the actual one), Thomas repeatedly tricked 93-year-old Raymond Campbell into giving him money. Campbell hired Thomas to cut grass, and Thomas told Campbell that he got arrested after he dumped grass into an unauthorized dumpster.

Then, according to the DA's office, Thomas actually posed as DA Seth Williams, and a variety of other judges to continue getting money from Campbell.

Campbell finally stopped giving money to Thomas, the DA's offices explained, when DA Williams personally told Campbell that it was a scam.

"This defendant is the lowest of the low," said District Attorney Seth Williams in a press release. "There are no words to describe the type of person who would steal from someone who's only short coming is that he is too trusting. Mr. Campbell fought for our country in World War II, and how is he repaid for that heroic service? He is scammed out of nearly a hundred thousand dollars by this scumbag Shelton Thomas."

DA Williams was on Good Day on Tuesday to give more specifics about the case. DA Williams said that Thomas grew up in his neighborhood, and they even played basketball together as children. DA Williams said that he had to meet with Campbell personally to assure him that he owed no money and Thomas' claims were a scam.

"We have to protect our seniors," emphasized DA Williams.

The District Attorney's Office encourages anyone who believes they are the victim, or have an elderly family member who maybe the victim of a scam to call the Philadelphia Police Department SVU at 215-685-3251, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging at 215-765-9040 or email the District Attorney's Office at justice@phila.gov.

Shelton Thomas will be in court again on March 7th, 2014. He has bail set at $750,000.
