Woman Searching For Dog She Says Helped Her Beat Cancer

Posted: Updated:
VOORHEES, N.J. -

A Voorhees family believes their precious pup is the reason they were able to get through the side effects of a disease that could have destroyed them.

And they need your help finding "Sprout," who they fear can't survive without them.

Lisa Wu has countless videos and photos of her Maltese-Yorkie "Sprout" by her side when she was going through the toughest time of her life.

"He was always there for me, always," she said.

Two years ago Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had the support of her husband, children, even there other dog "Bean."

But not wanting to put all the weight on them, she longed for something else.

"Every day after surgery, you get through one phase and then you're into chemotherapy. Then, I had to do radiation. When you come home at the end of the day after all that and not feeling well, you just want happy time," recalled Lisa.

She found that happiness at a shelter where she got Sprout.

"I was depressed. I was feeling sick. I was in bed constantly, and I guess I was looking for something to lift my spirits and to take my mind off all my symptoms," said Lisa.

Now a cancer survivor, Lisa is faced with more devastating news. Sprout broke away from a dogsitter over the weekend on a walk near his Voorhees home.

"It's just awful. I've been crying for three days straight and I don't know where he could be," cried Lisa.

With the help of neighbors, they've put up hundreds of flyers.

"I just want to feel his fur on me again," she said.

Lisa, seen in a photo at one of her sickest times cuddling with Sprout, now longs to have him back home.

"If there's anything I've learned through my cancer journey, it's that you have to look on the bright side of things and stay positive."

Sprout is tan and black with white spots underneath. Lisa believes he may be in the Cherry Hill, Marlton or Voorhees area. If you find Sprout call 856-287-8677.
